A rare and deadly mosquito-borne virus has claimed the life of a Beaufort County resident, marking the first death from Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) in South Carolina in 22 years, according to the state Department of Health. The virus, spread by mosquito bites, can cause severe neurological damage and currently has no cure or vaccine.
In Spartanburg County, a person was killed after their pickup truck veered off Riddle Road, hit an embankment, and overturned. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
