The City of Greenville is making a major investment in affordable housing, spending $1.17 million to purchase four parcels of land in the Haynie-Sirrine neighborhood. The goal: to preserve the area’s historic character while fighting gentrification and bringing long-time residents back.
City Council member Ken Gibson says the neighborhood, once a predominantly Black community, has seen rising prices and displacement in recent years. A community meeting will be held September 17 to gather feedback from local residents before finalizing any development plans.
