Violent crime is on the decline in Greenville County, South Carolina, thanks to an aggressive crackdown by the sheriff’s office. The Violent Crimes Task Force—now made up of up to 100 deputies—was launched earlier this year after a tragic shooting claimed the life of a 5-year-old child. Since then, the sheriff reports a 56% decrease in violent crime, along with major drug and firearm seizures. Officials hope to keep this initiative running year-round, with increased efforts over the summer.
