Two deputies were injured during what was intended to be a routine training exercise at a vacant building. Emergency vehicles rushed both deputies to a local hospital, where officials say they are expected to recover. One deputy is undergoing surgery.
The sheriff’s office confirmed both were struck by a round during the drill, but how it was fired remains under investigation. A full internal review is now underway to determine what went wrong. Officials are also working to assess whether any outside agency will be involved in the investigation.
