A tragic loss has shaken the Pickens County community. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday for 12-year-old Ansley Pace Chapel, who officials say passed away from bacterial meningitis.
Ansley was a rising 7th grader at Dacusville Middle School, where students and staff gathered to honor her memory and support one another during this heartbreaking time.
According to the Pickens County Coroner, this is the first confirmed case of bacterial meningitis in the area in three years. The CDC reminds the public that all types of meningitis can be contagious, and encourages families to be aware of symptoms and seek medical attention if necessary.
