Breaking News: A suspect is dead after an officer-involved shooting outside a Pizza Hut in Pisgah Forest. According to the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office, the incident unfolded around 12:30 a.m. on Pisgah Highway.
Deputies were searching for a vehicle in connection to a welfare check when they located it in the Pizza Hut parking lot. Authorities say 30-year-old Raul Alberto Rivera began firing at deputies, striking their patrol car. Deputies returned fire, fatally shooting Rivera at the scene. No deputies were injured. The investigation is ongoing.
