The South Carolina Department of Public Health says the victim was from Beaufort County. This marks the first reported case of the mosquito-borne virus in South Carolina since 2020.<\/p>\n<p>EEE is a rare but serious illness that can lead to severe neurological complications and even death. There is currently no vaccine or cure.
