4 killed in SC after vehicle plunges from bridge into water

PORT ROYAL, S.C. (AP) — Authorities in South Carolina say four people are dead after a vehicle plunged from a bridge into a waterway. Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen said in a news release that the dead included three children ages 16, 6 and 3. The deadly crash happened Saturday morning on a bridge linking Port Royal and Lady's Island. Port Royal Police are investigating what happened with help from the South Carolina Highway Patrol. No cause has been announced. The coroner said the dead were all residents of Burton. They were identified as 36-year-old Lashay Tikia Doe, 16-year-old Jashawn Hawkins; 6-year-old Alonzo Houston and 3-year-old Cameron Perry. A crew from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources helped locate the submerged vehicle and raise it from the water.
City of Greenville: Resurfacing along Cleveland Street starting Sept. 21

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The City of Greenville says part of Cleveland Street will be resurfaced starting Monday, with work expected to take a month to complete. The city says the portion of Cleveland Street spanning from East Camperdown Way to Southland Avenue will be worked on from 7 a.m. through 6 p.m. Monday through Friday starting September 21. One lane will remain open in each direction, but drivers should still expect delays and use caution when traveling in the vicinity. The resurfacing project starting Monday is part of the Municipal Match Resurfacing Program managed by the Greenville Legislative Delegation Transportation Committee's (GLDTC) construction management group, CoTransCo. Portions of Stratham Street, Pinehurst Street, Mall Connector Road, Azalea Court, and Cavalier Drive are also scheduled for repaving this fall. DHEC: Richland County again has more new virus cases than other counties in Sunday's data

COLUMBIA, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Daily data released by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control on Sunday show that once again, Richland County saw more new virus cases than any other county across the state, continuing a trend. DHEC says <a href="http://scdhec.gov/sites/default/files/media/document/COVID-19_Case_and_Probable_Summary_9_20_2020.pdf" target="_blank">of the 420 new confirmed cases of COVID-19</a> reported Sunday, Richland County had 90 new confirmed cases. There were also 30 probable new cases across the state, and Richland County had nearly half of those new probable cases with 13. In the Upstate, Greenville County saw 39 new confirmed cases, continuing a trend of having more new virus cases than other counties in the region each day while still trailing behind Richland County. The 420 new confirmed cases lifts the total confirmed caseload to 134,494. Probable cases are now at 3,214. The agency also reported <a href="http://scdhec.gov/sites/default/files/media/document/COVID-Death-Summary_9-20-2020.pdf" target="_blank">13 new deaths confirmed</a> to be tied to the virus with no probable deaths, slightly raising the needle to 3,028 confirmed deaths while probable deaths remained at 171. Richland, Newberry, and Dillon counties all reported two deaths each; all patients except one in Dillon County were elderly, while the remaining one death there was a middle-aged patient. Greenville County reported one elderly patient's passing. As of Saturday, DHEC says <a href="http://protect-us.mimecast.com/s/PXB2CERyRWsWBnMOWsZhIoY?domain=link.mediaoutreach.meltwater.com" target="_blank">1,299,227 tests</a> for the virus have been conducted. That day alone, 4,556 test results were reported to the agency, with a <a href="http://protect-us.mimecast.com/s/Dx5xCG6A6WhJwqGEJT0voKy?domain=link.mediaoutreach.meltwater.com" target="_blank">9.2% percent positive</a> rate.
