NHL to investigate claim Sharks’ Kane bet on own games

The NHL said it will investigate an allegation made by Evander Kane’s wife that the San Jose Sharks forward bet on his own games and has intentionally tried to lose for gambling profit. The league said Saturday night on Twitter that it was made aware of the social media posts from the Instagram account of Anna Kane and plans to conduct a full investigation. The messages included, “How does the NHL let a compulsive gambling addict still play when he’s obviously throwing games to win money? Hmm maybe someone needs to address this.” And: “Can someone ask (Commissioner) Gary Bettman how they let a player gamble on his own games? Bet and win with bookies on his own games?”
Coroner: Man dies after crash with tractor-trailer in Cherokee County

CHEROKEE COUNTY, SC (FOX CAROLINA) - A man has died after a crash in Gaffney that happened on Saturday, according to the Cherokee County Coroner's Office. According to the Coroner Dennis Fowler, 34-year-old Thomas William Ross, Jr. was traveling south on a motorcycle on South Granard Street at 4:38 p.m. Ross hit a tractor-trailer rig north on the right side and was thrown from the motorcycle on impact, says Fowler. He mentions Ross was not wearing a helmet. Fowler says Ross was taken to Cherokee Medical Center, but pronounced dead upon arrival. He mentions that the driver of the truck was not injured.

TOKYO (AP) — American gymnast Simone Biles says she was forced to pull out of the team and all-around competition due to a case of “the twisties.” The phrase is gymnastics lingo for what happens when an athlete loses their awareness in the air. Biles says the issue popped up following qualifying and has put her availability for the rest of the Games in jeopardy. Biles has qualified for all four event finals but it seems unlikely she will be ready. Biles says previous bouts with “the twisties” have lasted two weeks or more.
