Major NC high school athletics oversight overhaul proposed

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Republican senators are proposing a major change in the oversight of North Carolina interscholastic sports. They unveiled a bill Tuesday that would essentially remove the North Carolina High School Athletic Association as the organization that carries out rules set by the State Board of Education. The association would be replaced in the 2022-23 school year by a North Carolina Interscholastic Athletic Commission. Commission members would be picked by the governor and legislative leaders. The measure surfaced after lawmakers have questioned publicly the nonprofit’s authority and its large financial assets. The athletic association's executive director says the proposal would inject politics into high school athletics.
Anderson Co. Council approves Medshore as only EMS transportation provider

ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina)- The Anderson County Council voted on Tuesday night to move forward with an agreement that will change how Emergency Services operate throughout the county. Councilmembers voted to move forward with an agreement to make Medshore Ambulance Services the single emergency transportation provider for the county. The motion passed with a 4-3 vote. Anderson County issued a series of facts to inform the public about their decision. You can watch the entire discussion on the issue below. After the meeting, a group of EMS workers from throughout the County filed a protest against the decision. The document represented Belton EMS, Fork Rescue Squad, Iva Rescue Squad, Pelzer EMS and Thorne Ambulance Service. The group discusses why the decision hurts the County and how it violates the requirements that were set when the process began. The protest outlined five reasons why the decision should be reversed. Those reasons include the following. The agreement violates prohibitions on conflict of interests.The agreement would not provide the services required by the County's requirements.The decision appears to violate the County's requirements on communications with anyone other than the Contracting Officer.They propose to rely on an undisclosed subcontractor, which violates the count's requirements.The agreement does not represent a good value for the County and those who live there. Greenville Co. Council votes to transfer property of Woodfield Community Center

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina)- The Greenville County Council voted on Tuesday to pass the third reading of a proposed ordinance that would decide the fate of the property that houses the site of the former Woodfield Community Center. According to the ordinance, the property would be transferred to the Greenville County Redevelopment Authority. County council has previously discussed demolishing the community center but many local residents have pushed for it to be renovated instead. The ordinance passed by a vote of 10 in favor and two opposed.
