Saturday, S.C. hosts "Day of Action" in over 25 counties to improve completion rates of 2020 census

reenville, SC (FOX Carolina) - Saturday, counties, municipalities and nonprofits are partnering across the state to host a day of action in South Carolina in an effort to improve completion of the 2020 census. State officials say Saturday, September 26 is the last Saturday for households to self-respond to the census. Officials say completion of the census will drive local funding allocations for schools, healthcare, disaster response and more than 50 other federal programs for the next 10 years. Census data is used to support economic development and the installation of broadband internet. In total, there will be sites in more than 25 counties where community members can access a range of services including COVID-19 testing, flu vaccinations, census completion, voter registration and other community services. Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette, chair of the SC Governor’s Complete Count Commission says, “All South Carolinians need access to these critical services and to complete the census. Widespread Covid testing and flu vaccination will help keep our economy moving this winter and a complete count for the census will ensure we continue to grow and recruit new employers to the area for the next 10 years.” In the Upstate, events will be held in Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, 2 locations in Greenville, Greenwood and Union County. ACSO: Man accused of intentionally running car into two victims now in custody

BELTON, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Deputies in Anderson County say a suspect that hit two people with a car on purpose Thursday evening has now been taken into custody. Belton police dispatch confirmed to FOX Carolina they got the report around 5:04 p.m. According to them, the scene unfolded near the Oak Forest Apartments on Calhoun Road and classified as an incident involving a car and pedestrian. We were told a victim was flown to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment via Life Flight. We also learned that Anderson County deputies were responding. Later, Sgt. JT Foster with ACSO confirmed there was a second victim who was transported via ambulance. He also confirmed that deputies reported a vehicle had been intentionally driven into the two victims. Their conditions are unknown, and an investigation is active now. Around 10:43 p.m., Foster announced they had signed two warrants for attempted murder for Brandon M. Taylor, releasing previous mugshots for him. The mugshots show he has neck and face tattoos, including a star near the outer corner of his right eye. The sheriff's office says Taylor was taken into custody early Friday morning and is now in the Anderson County Detention Center.
Coroner's office confirms Anderson police officer killed in fatal head-on collision along SC 24

Anderson, SC (FOX Carolina) - The Anderson County Coroner's Office has confirmed an Anderson Police officer has died following a head-on collision Friday morning. Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say the crash happened around 6:09 a.m. on SC 24 near Wham Road. Earlier Friday morning troopers confirmed a fatality was involved but it wasn't until just before 9 a.m. the coroner's office confirmed it was a police officer. We don't know if the officer was on duty at the time of the crash. The Coroner's Office says the Highway Patrol's MAIT team is on scene investigating. We'll update as we learn more information.
