Silver Alert active for elderly man last seen in Hickory

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - Catawba County deputies have activated a Silver Alert for an elderly man who was reported missing early Monday morning. CCSO says 78-year-old Joseph O'Neal Crump was last seen along 30th Street NE in Hickory, and is believed to be living with a cognitive impairment. His direction of travel was unknown. He's a white man who stands at 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs about 125 pounds, has short gray hair, and has blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue hat, a long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and orange and white New Balance shoes. A photo of him was not available as of writing. O'Neal is also known to be driving a 2007 white Nissan Frontier. A license plate number was not available, but it is a North Carolina tag. Deputies: Three suspects captured after chase and gunfire exchanges with deputies, homeowners

TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - Transylvania County deputies caught one suspect after exchanges of gunfire with both deputies and homeowners, and later took the remaining two into custody. In a news release Sunday, TCSO says two homeowners returned to their residence in the Jeter Mountain area earlier in the afternoon to find a suspicious vehicle backed up to a storage building. The male homeowner confronted the occupants, and his spouse exited their car, exchanging gunfire with the suspects. The trio of suspects then fled in their vehicle while the homeowners called 911. No injuries were reported from this incident. However, TCSO deputies say one of their own patrol deputies intercepted the suspects and began a pursuit. At one point, the suspects and the deputy exchanged gunfire, and the pursuit continued until the trio crashed their car. All three left on foot, but one suspect was taken into custody. A search then got underway, concentrated in the Crab Creek and Jeter Mountain areas along the Henderson and Transylvania county line. An update from TCSO just after midnight indicated the remaining two suspects were taken into custody. Deputies promised future updates with the names of the suspects and their charges. TCSO notes this is a joint operation conducted with the Henderson County Sheriff's Office, and with assistance from several agencies in both counties.
Troopers: Man assaults Highway Patrol trooper at DUI checkpoint

ABBEVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina)- The South Carolina Highway Patrol says that a man has been arrested after assaulting one of their troopers at a DUI checkpoint in Abbeville. Donald Blake Outzs was arrested at around 1:00 Sunday morning and initially resisted arrest before assaulting a Highway Patrol trooper at a DUI checkpoint near Old Hodges Rd. and Mt. Olive Church Rd. in Abbeville, according to SCHP. Highway Patrol says that Outzs is in custody and is currently being charged with driving under the influence and resisting arrest with an assault on law enforcement.
