GBI: Former Elbert Co. deputy charged for firing shots that hit fellow deputy on self-harm call

ELBERT COUNTY, Ga. (FOX Carolina) - A former Elbert Co. deputy is now facing charges tied to a shooting incident that left another deputy injured, all while responding to a self-harm call at a cemetery. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation first investigating the deputy-involved shooting at the cemetery off of Rehobath Road in the Bowman are on September 30, 2020. GBI says former deputy Jennifer Boggs, 36, responded with Dep. Jonathan Alewine to the scene after a 911 hang-up call from 33-year-old Mac J. Cunningham of Hartwell. GBI says Cunningham was threatening to harm himself, and both Alewine and Boggs found him sitting in a pickup truck with a handgun. Both deputies tried to offer Cunningham help and tried to get him to surrender the gun. Alewine tried to smash the side window of the truck, but GBI says Boggs fired her handgun multiple times, striking Alewine in the hand. Cunningham didn't fire a weapon, but was previously charged for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Boggs now faces two counts of aggravated assault and one charge of reckless conduct. GBI has referred the case to the Northern Judicial Circuit District Attorney for prosecution. PREVIOUS STORY:
Coroner: Pedestrian hit by car along Woodruff Rd. dies at Greenville hospital

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Greenville police say a traffic fatality has forced part of a road to be closed Wednesday evening. <a href="https://www.facebook.com/GreenvillePoliceDepartment/posts/3785794864810607" target="_blank">GPD posted about the closure</a> around 8:45 p.m. on their Facebook page. Details were scarce, but a section of Woodruff Road near Verdae Blvd. is shut down as the investigation is ongoing. Around 9:30, coroner Jeff Fowler confirmed the victim was hit by a car and was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment. However, Fowler says the victim died at the hospital. He also confirmed the victim was a pedestrian, and the coroner's office was working to identify the victim and notify next of kin. The collision marks the latest in a series of deadly crashes across the Upstate, and the second deadly collision within almost nine hours in the Greenville area. We're working to get more details. Lon Adams, Slim Jim jerky recipe creator, dies of COVID-19

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Alonzo “Lon” T. Adams II, the man who created the formula for Slim Jim beef jerky sticks, has died from complications of COVID-19. Lynn Barrow of Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Raleigh confirmed Adams died on Nov. 28. He was 95. A funeral service was held Wednesday. The News & Observer of Raleigh reports Adams was a World War II veteran who survived the Battle of the Bulge despite being shot in the head. Today's Slim Jims are the result of Adams' recipe, described by The New York Times in 1996 as a combination of processed ground beef, chicken meat and other parts, along with a range of spices and chemicals.
