Family and friends remember 21-year-old killed in crash with garbage truck

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) - Saturday afternoon, family and friends gathered at a neighborhood bar and grill in Greenville to remember 21-year-old Kwantaveus Arnett, who was killed earlier in January after being involved in a wreck with a Greenville City Garbage Truck. The crash happened on <a href="https://www.foxcarolina.com/news/coroner-21-year-old-man-dies-after-collision-with-greenville-city-garbage-truck/article_c4b06fbc-51fc-11eb-b4e4-6ba9a6665b31.html" target="_blank">Jan. 8</a> at the intersection of Mauldin Road and Fairforest Way. Dozens of family and friends of Arnett gathered at Duggie Bar and Grill Saturday afternoon to remember Kwan. Friends and family say he was always there for other people, as they continue to mourn the loss of him. Everyone in attendance encouraged to wear purple and gold, for Arnett's favorite team the Los Angeles Lakers. "My nephew was a person who would help everybody, he would do anything he could for you. Without regret, without asking, without money, everything," said Kwan's Uncle Chico Poole. Arnett was killed on Jan. 8 when he was involved in a crash with a Greenville City Trash Truck. Troopers say the trash truck was turning left on Fairforest Way while Arnett was driving down Mauldin Road. They say Arnett's car was hit by the trash truck. The Greenville County Coroner determined the cause of death for Arnett was multiple blunt force injuries. "We going to be lost without him basically," said Kwan's Aunt Sandrenna Arnett. "He took care of everyone from me to his grandma to his aunt, cousins, everybody, everybody. He made sure everybody was good," added Kwan's Mother Sundra Arnett. "A true man of the house, true man of the house is what I like to call him," said Sandrenna. We did reach out to SCHP on Saturday to see if there have been any updates in the investigation of the crash, but have not heard back as of Saturday night.
Troopers: passenger killed in collision after pickup driver ignored traffic signal near Clinton

CLINTON, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - South Carolina Highway Patrol says the driver of a pickup truck has been charged in a collision that left him hurt and his passenger dead Saturday afternoon. According to SCHP, 67-year-old Dale B. McCall was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado west on SC-72, 2 miles south of Clinton. However, troopers say McCall disregarded a traffic signal, striking a 2015 Lincoln Mark X SUV that was northbound on Charlottes Road. While nobody in the SUV was hurt, troopers report McCall was entrapped and injured, requiring mechanical extrication to be properly treated. McCall also had a passenger in the front seat with him who was taken to a hospital via helicopter. However, the passenger passed away due to injuries sustained in the crash. All parties involved were wearing seat belts. McCall now is charged with disregarding a traffic signal. The Laurens County Coroner's Office later identified the passenger as Marjorie Silvers of Clinton.
Coroner: person involved in crash near Gray Court died of natural causes; death not caused by crash

GRAY COURT, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Laurens County Coroner's Office says a collision investigation conducted with South Carolina Highway Patrol revealed the person involved in the crash died of natural causes. According to SCHP's collision tracking tool, the crash happened just after 4 p.m. along SC-14, near the intersection with Friendship Church Road. A tip to FOX Carolina hinted at the scene, and we received confirmation from the coroner's office that the investigation was underway. Deputy coroner Rodney Hartsell promised a future update with details, and just before 10 p.m. called us back with more details. Hartsell noted the natural causes leading to the person's death and that there were other factors leading up to the crash. Hartsell, however, said he was not classifying this as a motor vehicle fatality. SCHP has not yet released incident details as of writing. The coroner's office also did not release the person's name.
