• Family of woman who disappeared after being released from Greenville jail still desperate for answers
on January 22, 2021 at 5:52 am

Greenville, SC (FOX Carolina) — A family is desperate for answers about their missing endangered loved one who disappeared after being released from the Greenville County Detention Center. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office confirms Lisa Hagerty was last seen walking out of the jail the night of December 8, but her next steps are unknown. Deputies cannot confirm if Hagerty got into a car or walked away on her own. “Throughout this whole time I’ve been crying. I’ve been distraught and I’ve been very upset. It’s been very hard for me because you don’t know if she’s alive or dead,” Lisa Hagerty’s Daughter, Melanie Lyons said. Weeks have gone by since her Lisa’s family has heard from her and they not believe she would walk away willingly. “The first week or so you’re hopeful and you’re like okay, we still have time to find her. She can’t be that far,” Lisa Hagerty’s Daughter, Amber Lyons said, “As things progress I try to stay hopeful but it gets difficult to do.” Hagerty’s family said she did not call them for a ride and her cell phone has been off since the night she was released from jail. Lisa’s daughters also confirm she has a mental health condition which requires medication that she does not have with her. Her close friend said she fears Lisa is in danger, “I know the love she had for her children and I do know she would not have ever left and just not contacted them,” Misty Reeder said. Lisa’s family has passed out flyers around the area where she went missing and gone door-to-door, hoping to find someone who knows or saw something. Anyone with information about Hagerty’s disappearance should call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIMESC.

• Upstate leaders call for citizens to vaccinate; specifically communities of color
on January 22, 2021 at 3:36 am

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) - A lot of questions are continuing to roll in about the pace of the vaccine rollout in South Carolina. DHEC told us that their allocation has been lower than other states. They are hoping to help the community understand the process so that the communities can maximize what the state has been given. Individual doctor's office wouldn't be able to handle this large scale process right now as well as this type of vaccine and the temp it needs to be stored in. That’s why they are allowing the CDC and Prisma to work together using mass sites so that they have all the equipment needed to maximize the resources allotted to this area. Most people I spoke with say that they are moving through the line quickly since it’s my appointment only right now. Having the trained staff, the equipment set up in a centralized location is to minimize the amount of vaccines that would be sitting waiting to be used as everyone rushes to get this sticker. Local leaders came together to show the community that - they believe in the science and that everyone should get informed to lessen the fear that some have. Sheriff Hobart Lewis says, "There is nothing to fear. We hope that everyone gets it and we certainly want to reduce the number of sickness we have a Greenville county and certainly the number of deaths." Sheriff Hobart Lewis and several of his deputies were vaccinated at the k mart location run by PRISMA... Initially there were plans to vaccinate on site at the sheriff's office... But officials determined this appointment only process at these mass vaccination sites are best. "They were more worried about documenting who got the vaccine, when they got it because there is a time limit on it and it can only be out for so long so we certainly encourage people to come here and this is the best place to do it," Sheriff Lewis says referring to the mass vaccination site at 1 KMart Plaza, in Greenville, SC. "Encourage not just my community, but every community," Dr. Thompson says. Another issue they are facing... Is getting people of color vaccinated... Dr. UA Thompson, a local spiritual leader says that he was vaccinated today to help eliminate some fear that has kept many in his community from being vaccinated. Dr. UA Thompson says, "I believe in toughen it out, I try to voice off but somethings in life you just cannot win anyway I think this virus is one of those and I think we should be moving with the swiftness. Come get the vaccine so that we can stop the hearse wheels from rolling in our community because of COVID-19." These leaders hope that by unifying that they can break down that fear that exists in many communities. But they realize that it's not easy. They are opening the door to continue these conversations locally so that people will get vaccinated. The latest from PRISMA about their vaccine rollout is here. Using scdhec.gov/vaxlocator to see locations accepting appointments for COVID-19 vaccine. Pick a location and call the phone number listed to make an appointment. The map itself is not a way to schedule an appointment. Calling DHEC’s Care Line at 1-855-472-3432 for help finding contact information you need to make an appointment. The Care Line can’t schedule an appointment but can give you phone numbers for locations you can call to make an appointment.

• Coroner: person killed while walking in Greenwood Co. roadway
on January 22, 2021 at 3:06 am

HODGES, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Greenwood County Coroner's Office says a person has died after being hit by a car Thursday evening. A news release from the office says the male victim was walking in one lane of Miller Road when the collision unfolded. The office says evidence suggests both the victim and vehicle were traveling in the same direction on the road. The coroner says the victim succumbed to injuries and died on the scene. The manner of death is pending investigation, but the office is working with South Carolina Highway Patrol to determine more. The man's cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma, and thus far he has not been identified pending notification of immediate family members. SCHP has not yet released details of their investigation just yet.
