Greenville County Council looking at funding for Parallel Parkway extension

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -- A $121 million project is in the works to help ease traffic on Woodruff Road. Greenville County Council members will take their first looks at funding the work tonight. The plan is to extend the Parallel Parkway, which runs between Verdae Boulevard and Woodruff Industrial Lane, down to Smith Hines Road. Essentially, giving drivers an alternate route stretching from Target to Taco La Barra. The project includes four traffic lanes, a multi-use path and two bridges over the interstates. Samantha Kelly describes driving down Woodruff Road as "absolute torture." When she can, she sticks to the Parallel Parkway. "That is the only way that we do any of these, you know, Costco, Magnolia Park, this whole area with Target and Trader Joe's," she said. "That's the route we go every single time so [the extension] would be awesome." Currently, the plan is to split the cost of the project between three pools of money. The proposed breakdown looks like this: <a href="http://www.gpats.org/Default.aspx" target="_blank">Greenville-Pickens Area Transportation Study</a>: $42 millionGreenville County: $30 million<a href="https://sctib.sc.gov/" target="_blank">SC State Infrastructure Bank</a>: $49 million Karen Marrett, who was making a trip to Trader Joe's from her home in Powdersville, said the investment is worth it. "I don't think we're getting any smaller. I think Greenville's growing," she said.
Streets close Tuesday for 'Dickens of a Christmas' in Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) - <a href="https://www.cityofspartanburg.org/dickens-of-a-christmas" target="_blank">The city of Spartanburg's 'A Dickens of a Christmas'</a> is back and this time, the holiday festival has expanded to make room for more people to attend. Organizers say in addition to Main and Church Streets, activities have been added to East and West Broad Street. The festival is set to take place Tuesday, Dec. 7 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Organizers say the following downtown streets will close on Tuesday: Main Street from Daniel Morgan Avenue to Converse Street starting at 3 a.m.East Broad Street from Daniel Morgan to Converse starting at 3 a.m.Liberty Street from Broad Street to Kennedy Street starting at 3 a.m.Magnolia Street from Parking Garage to Main Street starting at 3 a.m.Church Street from St. John Street to Kennedy Street starting at noon Access will stay open to all downtown parking garages, organizers say.
AMBER Alert issued for 1-year-old abducted in North Carolina

RALEIGH, NC (FOX Carolina) - An AMBER Alert has been issued for a missing baby who has been abducted in Raleigh on Tuesday, according to officials. Officials said 1-year-old Ava Lee Pierce was taken by accused abductor, Roxanne Michelle Cromer Parson, 34. The pair was last seen at 3777 Benny Lineberry Road in Climax, NC heading in an unknown direction. Ava is described as three feet eight inches tall and weighs 20 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. She has a birthmark on the right side of her abdomen. We're told Ava was last seen in a white shirt and black pants. Parson is described as 5'4" and weighing 120 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. Officials mentioned Parson has sores on her face. Anyone with information on Pierce or Parson's whereabouts is asked to call the Randolph County Sheriff's Office at 336-318-6699 or call 911.
