Crews: Fire that tore through abandoned building in Una deemed suspicious

UNA, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Spartanburg County fire crews say a fire that tore through an abandoned building in the Una community is suspicious because power was not active at the time. Early Friday morning, assistant chief Jeff Hadden with Una Community FD said crews spent 45 minutes getting the flames under control at the building located on Farley Avenue Extension. The fire was called in at 11 p.m. Thursday night and under control by 11:45 p.m. Hadden tells us the vacant, unoccupied building suffered a fully involved blaze. Hadden noted that it was known that homeless people were staying in the building a few weeks ago, but there was nobody present when crews arrived. The fire itself remains under investigation. Crews from Westview and Hilltop FDs both provided mutual aid. Faded signage on the exterior indicates the building was at one point a textiles facility.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Russian hackers have targeted the networks of dozens of state and local governments in the United States in recent days, and have stolen data from at least two servers. That's according to an advisory issued less than two weeks before the presidential election. The alert Thursday describes an onslaught of recent activity from Russian state-sponsored hacking groups in recent days against state and local networks, some of which were successfully compromised. The advisory from the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security’s cybersecurity agency functions as a reminder of Russia’s potent capabilities even as U.S. officials warn about Iranian interference.
Governor to attend Sgt. Jumper's funeral on Friday, loved ones gather for visitation Thursday evening

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) - Governor Henry McMaster said during a visit to Greer on Thursday that he plans to attend the funeral for a fallen Greenville County deputy and asked that flags be lowered to half staff on Friday in honor of the fallen hero. The Greenville County Sheriff's Office said the funeral for Sgt. Conley Jumper will take place on Friday. A visitation will be held on Thursday. The sheriff's office escorted Sgt. Jumper's casket to the Thomas McAfee funeral home in Simpsonville Thursday morning, where the visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held on Friday at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville. The funeral service will begin at 9 a.m. The doors will open at 8 a.m. The sheriff's office said the funeral is open to the public with limited seating. "We ask that all guests be mindful of Bon Secours COVID-related guidelines which requires patrons to wear masks and practice social distancing between parties," the sheriff's office advised. The Bon Secours Wellness arena also asks attendees to arrive early and expect heavy traffic. Following the funeral there will be a procession that will travel southbound on I-385 to I-26 East. From the arena, the procession will exit on HWY 202 towards Pomaria Cemetery for a separate gravesite ceremony. Jumper passed away at the hospital on Tuesday after he was injured in an incident on I-85. On Wednesday, deputies escorted Jumper's body from Greenville Memorial Hospital to the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home on White Horse Road. Later that night, he was escorted to Bon Secours Wellness Arena ahead of the funeral Saturday. Sheriff Hobart Lewis said Jumper had served in law enforcement for nearly three decades and was loved by all of his fellow brothers and sisters behind the badge.The sheriff also said Jumper had never had a complaint against him in his 28-year career.The fallen deputy had also never been given a brand-new patrol car during his career. He was due to receive the first one next week.
